Mongys Wild smashed Central Park’s 731m track record on Saturday night when winning a third successive Arena Racing Company Cesarewitch title for champion trainer Mark Wallis.

The superstar white and fawn greyhound – who won four Category One titles last year alone – added a fifth to his CV when dominating the Sittingbourne track’s feature stayers race worth £12,500 to the winner.

After trailing eventual runner-up Romeo Empire and Gemma Evans’ Princess Matilda around the first two bends, the TV Trophy, Golden Jacket, Regency and St Leger champion made his move down the backstraight before powering to an impressive six-and-three-quarter length win.

And he broke Central Park’s track record in the process, clocking 43.65 seconds – lowering the record set by kennel mate Garfiney Blaze who won the competition in 2024 and 2025.

It marked a bumper start to the year for Wallis and owner Mike Davis of the MWD Partnership, who last year won a remarkable 16 Category One titles, including two at Central Park.

Mike said: “He (Mongys Wild) was exactly where we wanted him to be around the first bend. He just needed a pitch, and he got a dream pitch so he could show what he’s capable of coming home.

“With a clear run, we knew nothing could beat him so we’re absolutely delighted with the outcome.”

Trainer Wallis won his 16th Greyhound Trainer of the Year title this month after accumulating more than £350,000 in prize money through 2025.

The two-times English Greyhound Derby winning trainer confirmed after the race that Mongys Wild is the best staying greyhound he’s had the priviledge of putting a lead on.

“His CV tells the story,” said Mark.

“It’s a shame Droopys Flare couldn’t be in the final, that would’ve really made it a fantastic race. But to win the Cesarewitch three years on the bounce is fabulous and to beat Garfiney Blaze’s track record shows how good he is.

“From here we’ll look to defend the Golden Jacket (with Mongys Wild). He won it so well last year, he’s now a year older and wiser and looks in even better form judging by Saturday so hopefully he’ll take all the beating.”

Richard Rees’ Deadly Disco finished the race third while Princess Matilda was fourth. Local hero Burgess Sophia was fifth after an outstanding campaign to reach the final.

Elsewhere on the night there were local winners aplenty, with Barry O’Sullivan’s Harlequin Taluka first to step onto the podium when winning Division II of the Jenningsbet Stayers Trophy.

Julie Luckhurst scooped one of the three Category Three finals on the night when Snowdon Mel won the £1,000 Jenningsbet Maiden Final. Daniel Brabon took the ARC Bitches Trophy with Bumble Belles while Barry O’Sullivan’s Good Rainbow took Division I of the Jenningsbet Stayers Trophy.

Greyhound racing continues at Central Park on Saturday nights with racing starting at 5.30pm and tickets available online and on the door from £10.

The track’s next competition final is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, when it hosts the £12,500 Arena Racing Company Kent Plate. Admission for racegoers who book online in advance for the fixture is free.
