Central Park Stadium has made 100 free tickets available to racegoers at one of its showpiece fixtures later this month to celebrate National Greyhound Week.

The Sittingbourne venue has launched the offer which will apply to its Saturday evening fixture on August 31 where locals are invited to learn more about the sport and its present-day operation.

Twelve live races will take centre stage with the public able to meet the stars of the track and learn more about how greyhounds transition from racing to retirement and make loving pets.

One of the stadium’s homing partners Retired Greyhounds Canterbury will be in attendance on the evening, which concludes with the final race at 9.46pm.

Hayley Huntley, general manager at Central Park Stadium, is forecasting a big turnout on the night and encouraged families and groups of friends yet to experience live greyhound racing to join the fun.

“Our summer holiday fixtures are always a hit and this year is no exception,” said Hayley. “We’re fortunate to be home to a community of racing enthusiasts who love their dogs.

“We're always looking at ways to connect with new racegoers with our sport and the greyhounds. To celebrate National Greyhound Week, we're offering 100 free tickets as a special one-time promotion.

“As well as the action on track, we’ll also be shining a light on our retired racers. Greyhounds make wonderful pets, are excellent with children and only require two short walks each day. They can adapt quickly to home life too.

“A house becomes a home with a retired greyhound, and we want to showcase this with both our current and new racegoers on the night.”

The offer at Central Park’s Saturday fixture coincides with the Greyhound Board of Great Britain’s (GBGB) second National Greyhound Week, which will run from Monday, August 26.

Launched last year, the week showcases greyhound racing via a seven-day roadshow of events which celebrates the sport’s canine athletes, those who work across the industry plus its fans and partners.

Hayley added: “National Greyhound Week is a great opportunity to celebrate our sport and those who contribute to its present-day operation.

“We’re fortunate to have a hard-working and dedicated team of staff onsite and committed trainers and owners who make Central Park Stadium a great location to enjoy an evening with friends all year round.”

FREE admission tickets for Central Park’s Stadium’s Saturday fixture on August 31 can be claimed by contacting Central Park via 01795 475547. Admission on the day is £8. Doors open at 5.30pm with the first of 12 races due off at 6.37pm.
